The Ohio Canal and Licking County

The Ohio Erie Canal’s groundbreaking ceremony took place on July 4, 1825, in what is now Heath. Upon completion, the canal would link Lake Erie and the Ohio River and pass through Licking County, creating an economic boon for the area.
