Event Details
Licking County has a rich past, yet history does not write itself. The retelling of historic events to contemporary readers takes diligent research and engaging writing. Join three local historians–Kevin Bennet, Aaron Keirns and Joseph Tebben — for a panel discussion of their books and articles, research, and how they make local history come to life.
Kevin Bennett is a retired Lieutenant Colonel with the U.S. Army and is the author of The Civil War & Granville: an Ohio community's Outsized Contribution (2012).
Aaron Keirns holds a degree in Anthropology from The Ohio State University and is the author of numerous books, including Black Hand Gorge: A Journey Through Time (1995), and Honoring the Veterans of Licking County, Ohio (2009).
Neil Phelps worked closely with the Licking County Records and Archive Department to help restore old county records, including many jail registers. Neil is the author of The Historic Licking County Jail (2017).
This in-person program is part of our lifelong learning series, Empowered Minds. The focus of this signature service is healthy aging and enrichment for the retirement-age citizens of Licking County. All adults are welcome and registration is free. Empowered Minds is supported by a sustaining gift from Robert Trimble Jr., a lifelong learner, and in part by the Licking County Senior Levy. Donations are appreciated.
