Program Description

Event Details

Dale Gnidovec, curator of the Orton Geological Museum at Ohio State University, offers a two-part review of some of the most famous fossil sites around the world. You have probably heard of the famous La Brea tar pits in California or the Petrified Forest in Arizona, but there are so many others. Learn about Mazon Creek, Illinois, which has produced fossils of over 340 species of animals that lived in an estuary 300 million years ago, or the Cleveland-Lloyd Quarry in Utah that yielded over 8000 dinosaur bones. There are even a couple of famous sites here in Ohio. Real fossils from the Orton Museum's extensive collection will be presented. Don't miss this opportunity to see and touch these amazing specimens. Sessions will include a break; attendees are encouraged to bring a snack. This two-part class is held on Wednesday, May 14 and Wednesday, May 21.

This free program is part of our lifelong learning series, Empowered Minds. The focus of this signature service is healthy aging and enrichment for the retirement-age citizens of Licking County. All adults are welcome. Empowered Minds is supported by a sustaining gift from Robert Trimble Jr., a lifelong learner, and, in part, by Licking County Senior Levy. Donations are appreciated.
