African American Roots in Licking County

The first documented African American in what became Licking County accompanied explorer Christopher Gist in 1751. There have been both named and unnamed African American people in Licking County since that time, some as slaves, most as free people. As part of this program, we will be focusing on the early African American pioneers of Licking County during the 1800s.
