Event Details
Author and nature photographer Jim McCormac takes us on a pictorial journey into the fascinating world of moths and how "moth-gardening" helps support these important pollinators. Our enchantment with butterflies isn’t surprising, with their rainbow palette of colors punctuated with ornate patterns. However, their close nocturnal relatives the moths overwhelm butterflies in species diversity and sheer numbers. Moths are inextricably intertwined with native plants, bats, birds and the whole ecosystem.
Copies of Gardening for Moths: A Regional Guide are available for purchase and signing at the time of the program.
Jim worked for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources for 31 years as a botanist, and later specializing in wildlife diversity projects for the Division of Wildlife. He has authored or coauthored six books, including Birds of Ohio (2004); and Wild Ohio: The Best of Our Natural Heritage (2009). His book Gardening for Moths, in collaboration with Chelsea Gottfried, was released in February 2023. Jim also writes a column, Nature, for the Columbus Dispatch.
