Art historian and artist Sean Crum discusses the art and life of Raphael. Raphael, along with Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo, form the holy trinity of High Renaissance artists. Primarily a painter, he was also an architect and mosaicist. He was barely 18 when he received his first major commission which led to monumental masterpieces in Florence and Rome. His greatest work, "The School of Athens" is the go-to masterpiece when any art historian wants to characterize the High Renaissance style. Known for his grace of style in both art and life, his early death at 37 was a tragedy that cut off the career of one of the greatest artists in history.
