Program Description

Event Details

Ecologist and conservation biologist Dr. Shauna Weyrauch discusses the ecological comeback of the bobcat, Lynx rufus. They had been extirpated from Ohio by the mid-1800s due to habitat loss, over-hunting and trapping. Her current research focuses on understanding habitat requirements for growing bobcat populations in Ohio.

Dr. Weyrauch is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Evolution, Ecology & Organismal Biology at The Ohio State University at Newark. Her research currently focuses on the dynamics of Ohio's recovering bobcat population. In 2015, she started "Project Wild Coshocton," a long-term bobcat camera-trapping study of wildlife in Coshocton and southern Holmes counties.

This free program is part of our lifelong learning series, Empowered Minds. The focus of this signature service is healthy aging and enrichment for the retirement-age citizens of Licking County. All adults are welcome. Empowered Minds is supported by a sustaining gift from Robert Trimble Jr., a lifelong learner, and, in part, by Licking County Senior Levy. Donations are appreciated.
