Event Details
Van Young offers Part 3 in a 4-part lecture series on pioneer life in America: "Setting up the Homestead." Once settlers arrived in Oregon to stake their claim, it was time to build a cabin and start a new beginning. Yet, where did they live those first few months? How did they survive those terrible winters and build a cabin in the middle of nowhere? Sod vs wood? Crops versus cattle? What was it like day in and day out to survive on the prairie with little to no help? Thousands succeeded, yet thousands failed. Van Young is the President of the Worthington Griswold Center History Study Group and a member of several Civil War Roundtable discussion groups.
This free program is part of our lifelong learning series, Empowered Minds. The focus of this signature service is healthy aging and enrichment for the retirement-age citizens of Licking County. All adults are welcome. Empowered Minds is supported by a sustaining gift from Robert Trimble Jr., a lifelong learner, and, in part, by Licking County Senior Levy. Donations are appreciated.
