Dale Gnidovec, curator of the Orton Geological Museum at Ohio State University, decodes the topic of geologic time. The rocks in Licking County were formed 320 million years ago, during what geologists call the Carboniferous Period. Some of our favorite fossils—dinosaurs—appeared 225 million years ago in the Triassic Period and became extinct 66 million years ago at the end of the Cretaceous Period. Where did those period names come from, and how do we know how old they are? This class will answer those questions.
This free program is part of our lifelong learning series, Empowered Minds. The focus of this signature service is healthy aging and enrichment for the retirement-age citizens of Licking County.
