Dr. Linda Rice discusses C.S. Lewis and the cohort of writers who regularly met at the Eagle and Child pub in Oxford, England. Lewis is well-known for The Chronicles of Narnia and his work in Christian apologetics. As he developed many of his literary works, he shared drafts of his writing with a group of close friends who came to be known as the Inklings. The group met regularly at both Oxford’s Magdalen College and the Eagle and Child pub to discuss literature and share works in progress. This presentation will provide an overview of who the Inklings were individually and explore their nature of their fellowship.
Dr. Rice taught high school English for 10 years in northeast Ohio and western Pennsylvania before completing her doctorate and coming to teach at Ohio University in 2002. While a high school teacher, Rice earned National Board Certification, a credential held by less than 3 percent of teachers nationwide. She is the author of more than 25 publications, including two books, 10 chapters for edited books, and numerous journal articles. She earned her PhD in English from Kent State University.
