Event Details
Art historian and artist Sean Crum discusses the restoration of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, France. On April 15, 2019, a catastrophic fire broke out in the Gothic Cathedral of Notre-Dame in Paris. The cathedral's spire and cross-vaulting over the transept were completely lost. Almost from the moment the fire was extinguished, a worldwide effort was formed to restore the great cathedral. Skilled craftsmen and expert advisors were employed for the project. This presentation covers the origins of Christian church building from early Christian basilicas up to the age of the great gothic cathedrals with a special focus on the restoration and re-opening of this national treasure.
