Event Details
Dr. Ben McCorkle explores the many ways that technology has been used to support the teaching of English over the last century. This presentation consists of an overview of 100 Years of New Media Pedagogy, a co-authored book that looks at how English teachers in K-12 and college-level settings have used technologies of the day to better motivate and instruct students. Additionally, this presentation includes an interactive component, where participants are invited to share and discuss their own experiences as students in the classroom.
Ben McCorkle is a professor of English at The Ohio State University, where he teaches courses on writing studies, the history and theory of rhetoric, and digital media production. He is the author of the books 100 Years of New Media Pedagogy, written with Jason Palmeri, and Rhetorical Delivery as Technological Discourse: A Cross-Historical Study. He has published essays in various academic journals and edited collections. He is currently co-director of the Digital Archive of Literacy Narratives, an online collection of nearly 10,000 individual accounts of people's memorable or influential experiences related to learning to read and write.
This free program is part of our lifelong learning series, Empowered Minds. The focus of this signature service is healthy aging and enrichment for the retirement-age citizens of Licking County. All adults are welcome. Empowered Minds is supported by a sustaining gift from Robert Trimble Jr., a lifelong learner, and, in part, by Licking County Senior Levy. Donations are appreciated.
