Program Description

Event Details

Ryan Jacob, Banding Projects Director at the Black Swamp Bird Observatory, discusses BSBO's songbird banding station, one of the largest on the continent. He offers a glimpse into their data collection, research, and the importance of banding in bird conservation.

Founded in 1992, the Black Swamp Bird Observatory (BSBO) organizes and hosts The Biggest Week In American Birding, a 10-day birding festival coinciding with the peak of spring songbird migration in northwest Ohio. The annual event draws over 90,000 avid birders globally. Learn the story behind BSBO, its focus on education, and its commitment to conservation and economic development.

This free, virtual program is part of our lifelong learning series Empowered Minds. The focus of this signature service is healthy aging and enrichment for the retirement-age citizens of Licking County. All adults are welcome. Empowered Minds is supported by a sustaining gift from Robert Trimble Jr., a lifelong learner and, in part, by the Licking County Senior Levy. Donations are appreciated.
