Event Details

Dr. Jamison Kantor explores how horror films and movie monsters are reactions to modern life. What makes a movie monster supernatural? Why are their opponents usually doctors and scientists? This talk reviews the history of horror films and the most famous figures.

Dr. Jamison Kantor is a literature professor at Ohio State University, where he teaches a popular English class called Monsters Without and Within. His research focus is on Romantic literature and the black diaspora in the 18th and 19th centuries. He is the author of Honor, Romanticism, and the Hidden Value of Modernity (Cambridge, 2022). Kantor earned his PhD in English Literature from the University of Maryland.
